“A Timeless Day in Sedona”
A 51×7 foot Public mural commissioned by A Day in the West for the City of Sedona, Arizona.“A Timeless Day in Sedona” is to be Uptown Sedona’s newest creative addition to its neighborhood. An outdoor mural: 51 feet in length, and standing 7 feet tall; Over 400 square feet depicting the essence of the unique town of Sedona, Arizona. A panoramic view of the red rocks stretching night into day as you walk the length of the building, stopping along the way to see the little things up close that were not visible from a greater distance. Some of the little things not to miss would be the hummingbirds, butterflies, insects, the rock climbers, the variety of lizards, the caves in the red rocks, etc.. There is an abundance of things to look at, and learn. Every plant and animal in the mural is native to Arizona, and even more specifically, Sedona. The filmstrip that weaves through the red rocks, is host to old movies that were filmed in Sedona, and the photographic beauty of Sedona.
There is also an interactive ness to this piece of public art. Along with the educational value of depicting the local plant and wildlife, there will be games kids of all ages can do. For instance: stand on the coyote paw (painted on the ground) and howl with the coyotes on the mural, or stand on the wagon wheel to see the wagon carrying Sedona Schnebly, you can find the story of how Sedona got its name in the book about the meaning of the mural (or ask a local the story), or “name that movie” for the old western movie fans. Prints of the images of Sedona and the old movie stills featured on the filmstrip will be available for purchase.
The color palette of the mural spans the colors and hues of the rainbow. Unpredictable colors are placed side by side in harmony, while the energetic strokes of the brush keep your eyes flowing from one discovery to another. The light from both the full moon on the left and the setting sun on the right fall exquisitely on the rock formations highlighting the extra colors the red rocks go through as the earth makes its daily yin/yang rotation.
Sedona is a unique town, where magical things are known to happen. Referred by locals as a “Sedona Moment”; containing but not limited to: Coincidences, moments of personal nirvana, thinking of someone then running into them or they call, distinct thoughts brought into reality, déjà vu, etc.. People flock to this town for the metaphysics, the alternative healing, the outdoor activities, and the artistic endeavors with good reason; Sedona is a one of a kind town. Once the mural is up be on the lookout for the stuff hidden in the mural, stuff that is more than what you first see. Stuff that even at the current moment is unknown even to the artist.
